With returning 2009 Champion Jason Alexander Seto it was always going to be a highly anticpated tournament.
With 51 competitors ranging from age 4 to 16 it was an exciting fun day. Tense at times but the flavour of Sport Stacking in Hong Kong really came through with many personal bests and Hong Kong records being set.
In the end it Jeanie Fung who reigned supreme and walked away with the Overall Champions trophy.
Well done to all stackers who came out and gave the day their best shot. You were all amazing.

WSSA RULE CHANGES
YOU NEED TO KNOW THESE RULES CHANGES RIGHT NOW!!
Stackers are getting so fast that judges often can’t see what their hands are doing. The result is that stackers are winning tournaments, only to have their runs scratched after video review, sometimes weeks later. These new changes allow judges to make confident decisions on the spot based on what they can realistically see. They also allow you the stacker the freedom to go faster without worrying about unintended scratches. It all adds up to a very exciting step forward for the world of Sport Stacking.
The WSSA Rules Committee identified three areas that need to be changed. Here they are:
Rule Change #1
Down stacking two stacks at the same time: 3-3-3, 3-6-3, Cycle
Two stacks may be down stacked at the same time. All stackers must use both hands to begin down stacking the first stack in any sequence before beginning to down stack the second stack, and must use both hands to begin down stacking the second stack before before beginning to down stack stack the third stack. The third stack may be down stacked with one hand.
(Note: The rule still applies that in the up stacking phase, a stacker’s hands cannot be on two stacks at the same time, nor can a stacker simultaneously “up stack” one stack while “down stacking” another.)
Rule Change #2
Hands on cups while stopping the timer: 3-3-3, 3-6-3, Cycle
A stacker’s hands may be in contact with the cups while stopping the Timer as long as the stacker does not hold (or appear to hold) any cups.
Rule Change #3
Turn and tap: Cycle
The “turn and tap” portion is no longer required. In the 1-10-1 phase of the Cycle stack, once a stacker has placed the single cups—one up, one down—on each side of the nested column of 10, and then up stacked those 10, the single cups may simply be “picked up” and used to down stack the 10 into a 3-6-3. (If a stacker does “turn and tap,” there will be no penalty.)

WSSA Hong Kong Sport Stacking Tournament 2009

WOW what a spectacular weekend we all had
Steven, Brian and Andrew showcased their skills which was just unreal to watch on both days.
Our 56 Stackers had an awesome time on both days with many personal bests being set.
The 3 Purugganan brothers wandered and mingled with the stackers which was fabulous to see. The local stackers loved getting to know them and taking photos and having their Speed Stack products signed by them.
We wish the Purugganan family all the best in the Philippines where they headed on Monday and hope to bring the pending Hong Kong Team to meet them once more at the World Championships in April 2010.
Our thanks go to New Town Plaza III for hosting the event and Wasabic Creations for marketing and running the event. They did an awesome job.
FULL RESULTS OF THE EVENT WILL BE POSTED SOON
Steven Purugganan’s Birthday Bash in Kong Kong
We hosted Steven Purugganan, his brothers Brian and Andrew and their parents Dan and Vikki for a 2 hour birthday party partty. We invited local stackers who have been demonstration their skills across Hong Kong to the local media over the past few weeks.
It was an exciting time for everyone as they prepared to meet the most famous Sport Stacking family in the World.
There was great food, stacking demonstrations from everyone and lots of chatter about this weekend’s tournament. Steven received a pair of very flashy White Air Jordan trainers and cards for his twelve birthday.
We found out that Andrew not only stacks well but it an accomplished 5 k runner and Ultimate Frisbee player.
The boys had been at Ocean Park for the day and loved the rides and the Panda’s.
Steven loves the Dim Sum and Brian loved the Vertical Drop ride.
Dan and Vicki were here 20 years ago for their Honey Moon and of course mentioned they saw a huge change in the city but were very happy to be back again.
So it sounds like the whole family are having a wonderful time.
They’ll be at the WSSA Hong Kong Sport Stacking Tournament 2009 in New Town Plaza this weekend and so head on down and check out the speed of the boys Sport Stacking. You’ll never see anything like it.
